Area History

Sunset Beach-Surf Pines, Oregon

We're "Laid back and off the beaten track"

beachscene.jpg

Sunset Beach has been a lakeside and ocean beach community since the 1930's.  The area is rich in history and recreation including museums, golf, boating & fishing, beachcombing, nearby factory outlet stores, hiking, kite flying, surfing and light houses to explore.

Walk down the beach to the wreck of the Peter Iredale, a ship that ran aground in the early 1900's.  Hike and bike at Ft. Stevens State Park and Lewis and Clark National Park.  The Japanese shelled Ft. Stevens during WWII and there is a great military museum there.  There's a great Maritime museum and Saturday Market in Astoria and the towns of Seaside and Cannon Beach are just a few minutes away.  Take the kids to the Prominade in Seaside or how about a swim and jacuzzi at the indoor facilities in Seaside.  Right next door to the pool there is a free Rec Center for kids and teens that is a great rainy day activity!

Is the big city more your style?  Drive 1 hour east to downtown Hillsboro and jump on the MAX light rail system to the Oregon Zoo or Downtown Portland!  Enjoy the numerous summer festivals in the Oregon beach towns and the Victorian Homes tour in Astoria.

Ready for some golf?  Great, there are numerous courses in the area!  Just go back to the home page and  click on local course info inside the weather box.  For a great source to local tourism links, plus news, weather and sports, visit KBFD's homepage at the link below!
